Installing an under-counter sink is a great way to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom. It offers a sleek and modern look, and it’s easy to clean. The good news is that you don’t need to be a plumber to install one yourself. In this article, we’ll show you step-by-step how to install an under-counter sink.
Tools and Materials You’ll Need
Before you start, make sure you have the following tools and materials:
- Under-counter sink
- Silicone caulk
- Plumber’s putty
- Tape measure
- Adjustable wrench
- Hacksaw
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Bucket
- Towel
Step 1: Measure the Sink Hole
Measure the size of the sink hole in the countertop. Make sure the sink you purchased fits the hole. If not, you may need to cut the hole larger or return the sink and purchase one that fits.
Step 2: Apply Plumber’s Putty
Apply plumber’s putty around the perimeter of the sink’s underside. This will help create a watertight seal between the sink and the countertop.
Step 3: Install the Mounting Clips
Install the mounting clips onto the sink’s rim. Make sure they are spaced evenly and positioned correctly. These clips will hold the sink in place.
Step 4: Insert the Sink into the Hole
Insert the sink into the hole from below the countertop. Make sure the sink is centered and level. Tighten the mounting clips with a screwdriver or pliers.
Step 5: Connect the Drain
Connect the drain to the sink. Apply plumber’s putty to the underside of the drain flange and insert it into the drain hole. Tighten the locknut underneath the sink with an adjustable wrench.
Step 6: Connect the Water Supply Lines
Connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Apply Teflon tape to the threads of the supply lines and tighten with an adjustable wrench. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
Step 7: Apply Silicone Caulk
Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the perimeter of the sink where it meets the countertop. Smooth out the caulk with your finger or a caulk smoothing tool.
Step 8: Clean Up
Clean up any excess caulk or putty with a towel and bucket of water. Let the caulk dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
